About the film: Directed by award-winning documentary filmmaker Stanley Nelson,Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities examines the impact HBCUs have had on American history, culture, and national identity. The film will air nationally on the PBS series, Independent Lens, in early 2018, and is the centerpiece of a yearlong, celebratory effort called “HBCU Rising”, featuring national partnerships and events, StoryCorps audio stories, video shorts, Homecoming college tour, and a crowd-sourced HBCU Digital Yearbook.
